On the very first full day that we arrived in Japan, I had a date. On an artificial manmade island in Osaka, I visited the Maishima Incineration and Waste Plant. This is where all the garbage in and around Osaka is gathered and treated. It might not be so impressive until you consider that 1) Japan is one of the cleanest and most organized countries in the world, and 2) the building looks like this:
